The first research conference “Rencontres de St-Gall” was held in Weggis.

Founding document for the institute's supporter organisation, 1959.
1975
A new director
Prof. Dr. Hans Jobst Pleitner takes over from Prof. Dr. Alfred Gutersohn.
2003
Again new directors, and a new institute name
Prof. Dr. Hans Jobst Pleitner hands over the management of the institute to Prof. Dr. Urs Fueglistaller and Prof. Dr. Thierry Volery.
Also in 2003, the institute changes its name for the first time, from “IGW” to “KMU-HSG – Swiss Research Institute of Small Business and Entrepreneurship”.

The first «Schweizer KMU-Tag» takes place at Olma, St.Gallen, and is an immediate success. Pictured is speaker Franz Jäger.
